Massage effects on tension-type headache
Our initial pilot study yielded great results with one publication, two more under peer-review, and poster and oral presentations at the AMTA convention in Portland, Oregon in October 2002. Furthermore, this study spawned our next tension headache study funded by the National Headache Foundation.

Even with a small subject pool, we were able to show statistically reliable reductions in headache frequency and duration with 8 massages. A precipitous reduction in headache frequency was measured in the first week of massage as the number of headaches fell from 6 per week prior to massage to less than 3 per week after two massages.
